Are you experiencing recurring:

  • Headaches
  • Neck Pain
  • Back pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sciatica Pain
  • Any unexplained pain

These are just a few of the many pain symptoms referred to as somatic pain. Somatic pain is caused by the activation of pain receptors in either the body’s surface or in the body’s deep tissues. Deep somatic pain is usually described as dull or aching but localized. Surface somatic pain is usually sharper and may have a burning or pricking quality.

Somatic pain is not necessarily caused by damage to the body’s tissue. The common feature of somatic pain conditions is the presence of a group of hyperactive muscles that asymmetrically influence the body’s posture and joints movement. In other words, the body is off balance. As a result, some body parts work harder to compensate for the body parts that are restricted. The body reacts with pain. The part of the body where pain is experienced is not necessarily the part of the body that needs to be treated in order to eliminate the pain. The restricted body parts may be the source of the pain yet the pain is felt in another body part. Treating only the body part experiencing pain may result in a minor amount of relief. When the entire group of muscles that are contributing to the body’s imbalance is treated, the body is able to regain its balance and the pain level is diminished significantly.

When the body’s deep tissue structures develop tension, the central nervous system automatically and involuntary compensates for the tension by re-aligning the body’s posture and the most overwhelmed muscle will be in pain. Soft tissue manipulation can be used to effectively release this deep tissue tension. Manipulation techniques used include: Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, Muscle Energy, The Bowen Technique, Acupressure, Chakra Balancing, Reiki, Connective Tissue Massage as well as Gua sha and Cupping. Supplementary techniques like Aromatherapy may also be incorporated into the treatment.
